FURUNO has launched an incredibly engaging advertising series across the Hanshin Railway network (in Kansai), featuring humorous characters that playfully introduce Ocean 5.0 and marine technology to Japanese commuters. The "We Want You to Know FURUNO" Series
Since 2020, FURUNO has been running this advertising series designed to help more people discover and connect with the company's mission. The campaign features lovable characters who bring humor and personality to FURUNO's cutting-edge marine technology and Ocean 5.0 vision.
What makes this campaign so special is how it transforms complex maritime technology into engaging, accessible content. FURUNO primarily develops navigation instruments for commercial and fishing vessels, plus ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) equipment - products that most people rarely encounter directly.

⓵This poster humorously contrasts Ocean 5.0, FURUNO’s vision for the future of maritime innovation, with おっさん5.0 (“Old guy 5.0”) that reads Ossan 5.0, a playful self‑parody. The combination makes high‑tech concepts more approachable, inviting commuters to smile while discovering the meaning behind Ocean 5.0.
⓶This creative design plays on the sound similarity between 痒いようDX Kayui you DX (“It’s itchy DX!”) and 海洋DX Kaiyou DX (“Marine Digital Transformation”).
⓷This poster links the world of sumo (相撲), a symbol of Japanese strength and tradition, with the fishing industry (水産業). It then contrasts this with スマート水産業 (“smart fisheries”).
Epic Railway Takeover
This campaign is absolutely massive! FURUNO has secured advertising space across the entire Hanshin Railway network, from Osaka Umeda to Sanyo Himeji, including Hanshin Nishinomiya, the station closest to our headquarters.
The campaign includes everything from digital billboards and mega-vision displays to train wraps and station posters. We've even got a dedicated "AD Train" - an entire train covered in FURUNO branding!
What's particularly exciting is the year-long commitment, showing FURUNO's dedication to building lasting connections with the Japanese public. The campaign runs across multiple phases, ensuring maximum visibility and engagement.
