FURUNO is a company that has thrived thanks to the support of the sea and the people who live in harmony with it. However, the environment that means so much to us is now facing serious challenges.
We have spent a great deal of time reflecting on what unique contributions only we can make to give back to the sea, which has given us so much.

In addition to hosting talk shows and workshops focused on familiar and commonly known fish, we also explore ocean-related issues and promote activities to protect the sea.
Examples include our operational support for the SPOGOMI World Cup, which organizes community-based cleanup events, and our initiative to create an interactive forum where high school students in Hyogo Prefecture can discuss the issue of marine plastics.
SPOGOMI is a combination of “sport” and gomi, the Japanese word for “garbage.”

Since May 2022, FURUNO volunteer members have been gathering about twice a month for this activity. "Plogging" is a new type of fitness activity from Sweden that combines litter pickup and jogging. Jogging is good for your health, picking up litter is good for the environment, and it is also a new opportunity for people in the community and company employees to interact! We are invested in this new type of SDGs sports that leads to solutions for environment problems with a smile.

FURUNO supported the SPOGOMI World Cup Hyogo Stage that was organized by the Nippon Foundation, and sent three teams. From a broad perspective involving our overall company initiatives, solving ocean problems is one of FURUNO’s corporate missions, but we also want each and every one of our individual employees to join the people in communities surrounding FURUNO and get actively involved in taking on ocean problems personally as well. So we also conduct activities to protect the sea that we all love through small, ongoing individual contributions.

"It is said that about 95% of the marine runoff refuse sinks into the sea, and as a company that owes its existence and growth to the sea, FURUNO feels this is a societal problem we should take on. We spoke to students about the actions to assess the state of refuse flow into the Osaka Bay and the amount of refuse running off into the sea from rivers and streams, and introduced how our technology could be one method in solving marine issues.
We held discussions with students from each school, who had gained an awareness of marine plastics and marine pollution as problems. It was a valuable opportunity for interaction, such as presenting ideas and digging deep into the awareness of various issues.

We participate in the Sea and Japan Project promoted by the Nippon Foundation, and conduct a sea work experience program. This program is an initiative packed with tons of lessons, like living together with the sea, protecting the environment, and the bounty we receive from the sea. It deepens the studies of children by having them actually experience work related to the sea. During summer vacation, we held a work experience program targeted for fifth- and sixth-grade students titled "Challenge the Invisible at FURUNO: create the future of the sea and tell everyone! "

Children hold the key to the ocean’s future, and we believe it’s vital for them to learn about the sea and explore its challenges with us. That’s why we proudly support the Marine Infographics Contest, organized by the Sea and Japan Project in Tokyo. In this unique initiative, art students transform elementary school students’ ocean-themed research into compelling infographics that make marine issues easy to understand. FURUNO contributes not only by presenting the Furuno Electric Award, but also by supporting the event through project displays and turning winning entries into commemorative items—helping to inspire the next generation of ocean stewards.
